Halloween season resurrects local haunts and things that go bump in the night

To test your "scare-ability," here are some "boo-ti-ful" Halloween events to help you celebrate the season:

CASTLE BLOOD: The 20th anniversary of this Monessen holiday fest is held at a new indoor location at 11 Eastgate Ave. Remaining dates are tomorrow through Sunday and again on Halloween night. Times are 7-11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Wednesday; 7-9 p.m. Sunday. $15 admission. In addition, a matinee, daytime and no-scare tours for children will take place 1-4 p.m. Sunday for $7.50. 724-314-3563; www.castleblood.com

DEMON HOUSE, a dark attraction at 417 Coyle Curtain Road, Monongahela, is open tonight and weekends through Nov. 3. There is a special Light Out night (glowsticks provided) on Wednesday. Times are 7 p.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays; 7-10 p.m. Sundays. Entrance is $17; but $20 Wednesday. www.demonhouse.com

FRIGHT FARM is a popular seasonal attraction on the Rich Farms along Route 857 in Smithfield. This year the theme is "Farmageddon" and includes a Haunted Mansion, Haunted Hayride and Terror Maze. All three attractions run through Wednesday dusk to 10 p.m. Individual prices: Mansion $19; Hayride, $15; Terror Maze, $10. All three attractions for $25, a combination of two attractions for $23. GATEWAY CLIPPER FLEET HALLOWEEN CRUISES has a kids' costume party with characters, prizes and treats from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25; but $12 for children. www.gatewayclipper.com

HALLOWBOO, a family Halloween celebration with trick-or-treating, is held in Story Book Forest, in Idlewild Park, Ligonier, with theme rides, mazes and costumed characters. Remaining dates are 11:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $26.99, but free for age 2 and younger. 724-238-3666; www.idlewild.com

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS AT PHIPPS CONSERVATORY is a family-friendly activity with healthy snacks from 4-8 p.m. Friday. The event is included in general admission of $12. 412-622-6914; www.phipps.conservatory.org

HUNDRED ACRES MANOR, a haunted house -- and then some -- is located on Corrigan Drive in South Park and has a new attraction called "Brine Slaughterhouse." Other attractions are Massacre Manor, The Maze, The Family: Unearthed and South Valley Hospital. Event runs through Nov. 3. Times are 7-10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays; 7-11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $18. 412-851-4286; www.hundredacresmanor.org

MISCHIEF MANOR: Tours of a "haunted" schoolhouse of that name at 2820 Douglas Run Road, Elizabeth Township, are held through Nov. 3. Cost is $10. Call for times: 724-489-1115; mischief-manor.comuf.com

OWL-O-WEEN AT NATIONAL AVIARY is a time to dress up in costume and enjoy appearances from owl ambassadors, an owl craft and the creepy crawly bug station 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. This event is free with the general admission of $13. 412-323-7235; www.aviary.org

PHANTOM FRIGHT NIGHTS is in its 11th year at Kennywood and this time around features BioFear, Voodoo Bayou, Mortem Manor, Villa of the Vampires and other frights. Fright Nights run 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $28.99; but $25.99 at Giant Eagle locations. This venue is not recommended for those under age 13. PUMPKIN PATCH TROLLEY: Trolley rides and pumpkin patch are available on grounds of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, near Washington County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Tickets for adults $9, seniors $8, ages 1-15 $7, under age 1 free. 724-228-9256; www.pa-trolley.org

TERROR TOWN has a theme of "Paranormal Testimony" for this second year of Pittsburgh's largest indoor haunting attraction, at 17th and Smallman streets in the Strip District. Times are 7 p.m.-midnight tonight through Sunday. There is also a special Black Out night on Tuesday during which patrons get key chain flashlights to guide them through the dark attraction. KDKA ZOOBOO: Haunted House, Ghost Trail, Halloween Village and 96.9 BOB FM Q929 Monster Splash will be held at the Pittsburgh Zoo PPG Aquarium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The event is included in general admission of $14. 412-665-3640; www.pittsburghzoo.org
