The Gateway school board Wednesday night voted unanimously to hire Nina Zetty as the district's new superintendent.

"I'm excited to be here, so thank you for this opportunity," she said after the board vote.

Ms. Zetty, of Brownsville, Fayette County, is superintendent of the Peters Township School District in Washington County.

She will begin her work at Gateway as soon as she is released from her position in the Peters district, no later than Jan. 2, according to the resolution affirming her appointment. In the meantime, Bob Reger will continue to serve as acting superintendent, a position he has held since former Superintendent Joseph A. Petrella accepted a job in an Illinois school district in April.

Ms. Zetty has held the top job in the Peters Township School District since August 2008. She earned a doctorate in education from West Virginia University and bachelor's and master's degrees from California University of Pennsylvania.
