Former Steelers running back Verron Haynes is scheduled to go to trial in September for writing bad checks to pay off an Aston Martin he bought from a Monroeville car dealer.

Mr. Haynes, 30, now with the Atlanta Falcons, had a pretrial conference yesterday on charges that three checks he wrote to A&L Motors bounced in 2007 and 2008 while he was trying to pay for a $67,375 car. The checks were worth a total of $70,000.

His trial date is scheduled for Sept. 16.
