Highlands High School was on lockdown for a short time early this afternoon after an expelled student brought an unloaded BB gun to school to show his friends.
Harrison police Sgt. Kevin Gourley said there were no students in danger at any time. But he said the two 16-year-old boys who handled the BB gun will face charges in juvenile court.
He did not release their names because they are juveniles.
Sgt. Gourley said the high school had an early dismissal today. As students left the building about 1 p.m., the expelled student was waiting outside with an unloaded BB gun made to look like a real firearm, Sgt. Gourley said.
He handed the gun to a friend who was exiting the school and a teacher and security guard saw them, Sgt. Gourley said.
The teacher and guard ran toward the boys and the one holding the gun placed it down his pants, Sgt. Gourley said.
The security guard ordered him to lay it on the ground, the sergeant said. The boy complied said it was an unloaded BB gun, Sgt. Gourley said.
Students already on buses were held on board and did not leave school property. Students who had not yet left the building were kept inside.
