Driver attempts to hit Pitcairn officer

Police are investigating a situation where a driver attempted to run over a Pitcairn police officer today.

Allegheny County homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said the incident occurred when the officer tried to stop the car. The driver, only described as a black male, drove at the officer and then sped off.

A Monroeville emergency dispatcher said it happened around 4:45 p.m. near Second Street in Pitcairn. The officer was uninjured and fired a shot at the vehicle.

Police are searching for a silver or gray Jeep or Dodge Durango, license plate number JBC3522, with a bullet hole in the passenger door.
