A Braddock Hills man was killed in an attempt to rob him of the marijuana he sold from his grandmother's home, Allegheny County police said.

Three men went to the Brinton Manor apartment complex about 4 p.m. Tuesday intending to rob Brandon Johns, 18, police said. Instead, they traded gunshots, wounding one of the men and killing Mr. Johns in a stairway between the first and second floors of his grandmother's apartment building.

The three men left in a Dodge Avenger and headed to UPMC McKeesport, where police arrested one of them, Lt. Andrew Schurman said.

A second man, Eugene McCarthy, 23, of the Hill District, was arrested early today in Clairton, where poice said they also found the Avenger.

He will be charged with homicide and other crimes, the lieutenant said.

The wounded man, in critical condition after the shooting, remains hosptalized and could also face charges stemming from the gunfight. The lieutenant did not release his name this morning.

He said police are still investigating how the men knew Mr. Johns was selling drugs.
