A Monroeville attorney who was jailed in September sued Allegheny County Monday alleging mistreatment during his pretrial stay.
Harvey W. Daniels, 72, was jailed awaiting trial on trespassing, to which he later pleaded guilty and for which he was fined $300. While there, he was "beaten about the head," denied medicine for diabetes, denied the kosher food that he requested and sometimes denied water, and injected against his will with "some drug in the buttocks," according to his complaint in U.S. District Court.
The complaint, which Mr. Daniels authored and filed, also said he was subjected to "racial slurs because he was a Jewish lawyer."
The complaint said that the treatment amounted to violation of Mr. Daniels' right to be free of unlawful search and seizure and his right to equal protection. It demands an end to the alleged conduct, and $100 million in damages.
A county spokeswoman declined comment.
