Adult court trial ordered for North Homewood boy, 17, in Penn Hills McDonald's killing

A North Homewood teen charged in the shooting death of a man outside a Penn Hills McDonald's will be tried in adult court.
Akeem Willie, 17, asked Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Thomas E. Flaherty to move the case to juvenile court, saying he was open to rehabilitation and treatment offered by that system.
Prosecutors argued Akeem belonged in adult court after having been in and out of placements in the juvenile system for three years.
If Akeem's case were moved to juvenile court and he was adjudicated delinquent on the homicide charge he could only have remained in the system until he turns 21.
"Defendant's behavior both during and after his juvenile placements indicate that he has not been receptive to rehabilitation or treatment through juvenile court," Judge Flaherty wrote.
Akeem is charged with killing Dalyn Jones, 18, of Penn Hills.
Jones was a passenger in a car with another person Aug. 24, 2011, outside the McDonald's on Frankstown Road about 5:30 p.m., when Akeem and another teen, Darien Clark, got into the back seat.
There was supposed to be a deal for marijuana.
Akeem pulled a handgun out of his waistband and demanded their valuables, police said. When Jones paused, investigators said, Akeem pistol-whipped then shot him.
