A first step was taken yesterday to create a Thai Nationality Room in the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh campus.
The head of a committee promoting the project and the secretary of Pitt's alumni association in Thailand declared that the room will be a gift to Thailand's Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on her 50th birthday.
Space for room has to be chosen, and an architect in Thailand must draw a design. The room would recreate an aspect of Thailand before 1787, the year Pitt was established.
Twenty-six Nationality Rooms are in the Cathedral. Eight more, including the Thai room, are planned.
