Construction crews have resumed overnight work on the Squirrel Hill Tunnels on the Parkway East, meaning drivers should expect delays because traffic will be restricted to one lane during some hours.
Spokesman Jim Struzzi said traffic heading inbound will be reduced to one lane starting at 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday nights. The restriction is lifted by 5 a.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Traffic heading outbound will be reduced to one lane starting at 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the lane reopening by 5 a.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The construction is part of a $49.5 million project aimed at updating electrical, lighting, air control and ventilation systems in the tunnels and repairing the walls, among other changes.
Drivers can visit 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check on traffic conditions before heading toward the tunnels.
