A Penn Hills man was arrested for heroin possession near where shots were fired at Pittsburgh police officers on the South Side early this morning. No one was injured.
The shots were fired about 2:30 a.m. near the corner of Second and McKean streets, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.
Officers were on patrol when they saw a black male stuffing a gun into his waistband, Ms. Richard said. When the officers approached, the man ran, and officers pursued on foot. They heard three shots but lost sight of the man on East Carson Street.
During the pursuit, officers passed another man standing behind a vehicle. After losing the first man, they returned and found what appeared to be heroin in baggies in the car.
The second man, Rashaud Lewis, 18, of Penn Hills, told police the car was his. He was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver.
City police interviewed Mr. Lewis and are still investigating.
