A West Virginia woman was sentenced this week in federal court in Wheeling to 37 months in prison for selling her dying husband's pain medication.
Mildred Kirkpatrick, 43, of Wheeling, had pleaded guilty in December to one count of distribution of oxycodone on May 9, 2011, in Moundsville.
As part of her plea Wednesday, she admitted to making $3,000 a month by selling 20 percent to 30 percent of her husband, Joseph's, medication.
Mr. Kirkpatrick, a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, died June 20 at age 64.
Court records in the case are sealed and the U.S. attorney's office would not comment Friday.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Frederick Stamp also ordered Ms. Kirkpatrick to be on probation for three years after she gets out.
