People who pick up trash Downtown could get a reward, thanks to a new campaign the city launched Tuesday called "Caught Doing Good."
Members of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership's Clean Team and staff members for the Pennsylvania Resources Council will be on the lookout for pedestrians who pick up trash and throw it away in the correct place.
If spotted, the do-gooder could receive a gift card to a Downtown Crazy Mocha. He or she also has the chance to win a $25, $50 or $100 gift card that can be used at Downtown restaurants or stores.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and representatives from the PDP and the PRC announced the campaign at a noon news conference in Market Square, complete with bags of trash and a flash mob of Point Park University dancers.
The "Caught Doing Good" launch comes one month after the city started its "Don't Trash My Turf" campaign, which reminds people not to litter and potentially punishes those who do.
"It's important to let people know if you do litter, there will be consequences. But if you are caught doing good, there will be rewards for you," Mr. Ravenstahl said Tuesday.
