Ravenstahl gets top billing in 'The Return of the Garden'

After dozens of North Side residents and another score of Post-Gazette readers submitted slogan ideas for the marquee of the Garden Theatre last week, the city has eschewed all and come up with its own phrase to advertise the former porn theater for development:
"The Return of the Garden
Directed by Luke Ravenstahl"
The slogan will include a May due date for proposals.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority acquired the theater in February for $1.1 million after years of legal battles and owner appeals, and closed on it April 9. The marquee, which had advertised adult entertainment and times, has been empty for more than a week.
It could not be determined when the new slogan will be put up.
The theater, on North Avenue in Central North Side, closed in March and is being inventoried and readied for tours. It is part of a dozen buildings the URA is marketing for redevelopment of the Federal Street and North Avenue corridors. Information about the development projects can be found at www.ura.org.
Many suggested slogans were clever, but the point is to advertise the Garden to a potential investor who would develop it for the neighborhood's best use.
Chosen by popular vote conducted on the Internet, the three slogans the Central Northside Neighborhood Council submitted to the URA were Paul Carson's "Grow a new garden!", the URA's Angelo Taranto's "X no longer marks the spot," with the suggested tagline, "make your mark," and Timothy Zinn's "Out of the red light, back into the limelight."
Mr. Zinn and Mr. Carson are both residents of North Side neighborhoods. Readers sent their ideas to the Post-Gazette from throughout the region and as far away as Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
