Police seek help in attempted armed robbery in Banksville

Pittsburgh police are looking for a man they say attempted to rob the Banksville Road Rite Aid at gunpoint earlier this month.
Officers in the city's Zone 6 station responded to the store in the 3200 block of Banksville about 1:40 a.m. Feb. 6 for report of a robbery. A man had entered the store, pointed what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun at a store employee and demanded money, according to a Pittsburgh police news release.
Fearing for his life, the employee grabbed the gun and pointed it at the man, who then snatched it back and ran from the store, police said.
Just before the robbery attempt, the man came in the store and left quickly without buying anything. The employee followed him and saw the man getting in a large, silver sedan, possibly a Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria, driven by a black male, police said.
The employee asked if they needed help, and the driver said, "no we're ok... you still open?" police said. The employee said yes, walked in the store, and moments later, the man entered with the gun and demanded cash.
He is described as a white male, between 20 and 25 years old and 160 pounds. He had a medium build, "scruffy" facial hair and a fair complexion. He was wearing a black and gray jacket with a gray collar and a blue hoodie.
Rite Aid is offering up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
