Police are searching for a man they say hit a woman with a gun and took money from the Money Mart in Allegheny Center where she was working.

At 8:16 a.m. police responded to a panic alarm at the business on the 600-block of East Ohio Street.

When the employee opened the front door for customers, a man pointed a handgun at her and demanded she open the safe or he would shoot her, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said in a press release.

The man hit her in the head with the gun, discharging a round, Ms. Richard said. The employee provided him with money from a cash drawer and was hit again, Ms. Richard said.

The actor fled toward Giant Eagle carrying a Louis Vuitton purse with checks and an undisclosed amount of money, she said.

The employee was treated at Allegheny General Hospital for a contusion to the left side of the head, Ms. Richard said.

Police are looking for a thin, light-skinned black male, about 6 feet tall. He wore dark plastic sun glasses, a black and white scarf over his face, a black leather jacket, tan pants and was carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, police said.
