Robbery snatches laptop in Oakland, drags victim

Pittsburgh police said a man walking through a parking lot in Oakland was robbed by a motorist who grabbed his laptop and then dragged him about 100 feet as he attempted to grab it back on Tuesday evening.
But before the car drove away, the victim, Josh Moalemi, snapped an iPhone photo of the car that helped police nab the man suspected of the crime.
Donald Lee Boyd, 56, of the Hill District was arrested at around 9:40 p.m., about an hour after police said he robbed Mr. Moalemi. Police were still searching for a passenger who was in his car at the time of the crime.
According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Moalemi was walking through the Sunoco on Craig Street with his laptop when Mr. Boyd drove up and snatched it from him. He told Mr. Moalemi that he could have the computer, a MacBook Air, back for $300.
Mr. Moalemi reached in through the passenger window to grab the laptop back when Mr. Boyd began driving down Bayard Street with Mr. Moalemi hanging out of the window, screaming and yelling.
Mr. Moalemi let go when he got wedged between the moving car and a parked one. Police found him in the middle of Bayard Street. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, where he was treated for a broken foot.
In the emergency room, he showed officers an iPhone photo he snapped of the back of the car, which showed it had Ohio plates. Police put out a "be on the lookout" alert for the car.
Mr. Boyd was pulled over at Deviliers Street and Wylie Avenue.
Mr. Moalemi later identified Mr. Boyd as the man who robbed him.
Mr. Boyd was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges of robbery, conspiracy, accidents involving death or personal injury and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. His bail was set at $100,000.
