Police find 20 pounds of marijuana at North Side home

Pittsburgh police responding to the report of a violent domestic dispute on the North Side found a marijuana growing operation, leading to the arrest of a man on drug and assault charges on Sunday evening.
Gerald Sloan, 30, was at the Allegheny County Jail this morning awaiting arraignment on felony charges of conspiracy, manufacturing drugs, drug possession, in addition to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and drug possession.
Police said someone called 911 to report that two people were fighting at a home on Pennsylvania Avenue. When officers arrived, a woman who was bleeding from the mouth answered the door and told them she had fallen down the steps.
Officers searched the home, where they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in an upstairs bedroom. They left to apply for a search warrant and later recovered nearly $3,700 in cash, equipment for a marijuana growing operation, 20 pounds of marijuana and scales. An additional $1,226 was found in Mr. Sloan's pockets.
A witness later told police that he saw Mr. Sloan push the woman down the stairs. The woman, a 24-year-old, remained at Allegheny General Hospital today. Police said they were applying for a warrant for her arrest as well since she lived in the home with Mr. Sloan.
