A North Side man operated a marijuana grow lab in an apartment above two Perry South day care centers, police said.
Pittsburgh narcotics detectives detained Darron Nolen, 23, on Wednesday in the ground floor A Child Shall Lead day care, which he neither worked at nor owned, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said in a press release.
The neighboring Mamas Little Angels Learning Center was not affected, she said.
"The smell of growing marijuana did not permeate either day care facility, and no children were injured or affected by the marijuana," Ms. Richard said.
Police executed a search warrant for an apartment above the centers on the 2800 block of Perrysville Avenue and recovered three large marijuana plants, three small marijuana plants, two bags of marijuana, six bags of marijuana seeds and narcotics packaging paraphernalia, she said.
Mr. Nolen was charged with possession of controlled substance, marijuana; possession with intent to deliver controlled substance, marijuana; possession of controlled substance, vicodin; and possession of paraphernalia.
