Pittsburgh ready to pay deductible for two G-20 claims.

Pittsburgh is preparing to pay an insurance company $50,000 to help settle a pair of federal lawsuits stemming from the 2009 G-20 summit.
The city would pay the sum, representing two deductibles of $25,000, to Global Recovery Services of Atlanta, Ga., in connection with the claims of Ryan Kingston, Nathan Poloni and Frank Beal, according to legislation introduced today in city council.
At the time of the summit, Mr. Kingston was an Army second lieutenant and University of Pittsburgh student. Mr. Poloni was also a Pitt student. In their suit, they said they were swept up in a police response to G-20 protests in Oakland and mistreated though they were not protesters.
In a separate suit, Mr. Beal, a father of three from Point Breeze, said police broke his kneecap when he was in Oakland to observe officers' conduct during the protests.
The city last year announced that the suit by Mr. Kingston and Mr. Poloni would be settled for $60,000 and the suit by Mr. Beal for $170,000. Solicitor Daniel Regan today said the city's costs are limited to the deductible payments.
