Pittsburgh police are seeking information about a knife-wielding robber who stole money and cigarettes Wednesday afternoon from a Downtown convenience store.

The man walked into a 7-Eleven at 429 Wood St. near Forbes Avenue about 7:30 p.m., pulled out a knife and ordered a store employee to open the register.

The robber reached into the register, grabbed all the cash and took 10 packs of Newport cigarettes from under the counter.

He ran away down Wood Street toward Liberty Avenue.

Video surveillance showed a black man, 6 feet tall and about 250 pounds. He wore a black covering over his hair, a black mask concealing the lower part of his face, a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes and black gloves. He carried a small silver knife and what appeared to be a large book bag under his sweatshirt.

Police asked anyone with information to contact the Pittsburgh robbery squad at 412-323-7151. Callers may remain anonymous.
