A Pittsburgh police officer had a heart attack while on duty this afternoon, police said.

The officer was in a marked cruiser with his partner at the West End Circle near the West End Bridge, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

His partner and city detectives administered CPR until medics arrived, she said. An emergency dispatch supervisor said medics were called to the intersection about 1:30 p.m.

The officer was conscious when he was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital, Ms. Richard said.
