Pittsburgh police officer faces court date over Dormont incident with girlfriend

A Pittsburgh police officer is scheduled to appear in court next month on a charge that he assaulted his girlfriend.
Officer Michael Flynn, 35, of Pittsburgh's Westwood neighborhood, was reassigned to the warrant office Monday while the city Office of Municipal Investigations investigates the incident.
He could not immediately be reached for comment.
Dormont police wrote in a criminal complaint that they received word about 5 p.m. on Saturday that Officer Flynn, a five-year veteran of the force, might be suicidal and might be heading to his girlfriend's house on Beacon Hill Avenue.
When they did not see Officer Flynn, they spoke to his girlfriend, Jennifer McGurk, who told them the two argued over the preceding day. She told police Officer Flynn returned drunk to her home about 3 a.m., pushed his way inside, demanded to see her cell phone and became angry.
He then began to grab pictures off the wall and strike them with a beer can, according to the complaint.
The complaint also says he grabbed her by the legs and pulled her off the bed, leaving her with bruises, and tossed a large 50- to 70-pound stone on her bed, which she dodged.
Police wrote that Ms. McGurk did not want to press charges against Officer Flynn but the district attorney's office insisted that officers do so.
