Pittsburgh police homicide detectives are investigating after a man was shot to death on his birthday outside a Hill District barber shop this afternoon.
Officers were called just before 2 p.m. to the 400 block of Kirkpatrick Street, near Centre Avenue, where they found a 26-year-old man in the street outside the Team Mozzi barber shop.
He had been shot at least once in the chest and was pronounced dead at UPMC Mercy, where detectives were trying to learn more about him from relatives.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office later identified the man as Jaquae Pascal, of the East Hills.
"From what we understand, it happened right out in front of the barbershop," Pittsburgh police major crimes unit Lt. Kevin Kraus said.
Detectives studied two vehicles outside the shop but don't believe they were connected to the violence.
It was unclear if the gunman fired from on foot or in a vehicle, Lt. Kraus said.
