Downtown bomb threat cleared

Pittsburgh police have cleared the scene after someone called the Zone 1 police station on the North Side to say there was a bomb Downtown in the Fairmont Hotel.

The bomb threat was reported at 2:28 p.m., a dispatch supervisor said. The scene was cleared later in the day.

The police bomb squad was dispatched to the hotel at Fifth Avenue and Market Street to investigate.

Police did not evacuate the hotel and left surrounding streets open to vehicle traffic. Bomb squad members did not find any explosives when they searched the building.
