Squirrel Hill attorney Linda Judson on Thursday was elected chairman of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority, and new mayoral appointee Gabe Mazefsky was elected vice chairman.

The shuffling occurred because the former chairman, Scott Kunka, who is also the city finance director, left the authority board to concentrate on his other duties.

Ms. Judson has been a board member since 2006, most recently serving as vice chairman. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl appointed Mr. Mazefsky, his policy aide, to fill Mr. Kunka's seat.

David Onorato, the authority's executive director, said the board may be asked to vote next month on a contract for the installation of modern metering devices Downtown and in Oakland, the South Side and the Strip District. About 3,500 spaces would be affected by the change, which would allow motorists to pay with credit cards in addition to quarters.

About 10 companies bid on the project. Mr. Onorato said his staff eliminated five firms and will hear presentations from the others before the March board meeting.

The new devices may be in operation by July 1.
