Pittsburgh extends contract for hospitality consultant

Pittsburgh City Council this today voted to spend another $100,000 on a consulting group that is helping the city implement a comprehensive plan to deal with problems in entertainment districts, particularly the notoriously raucous South Side.
The Responsible Hospitality Institute will continue its work with the city this year, coordinating the implementation of a variety of recommendations it developed out of a study last year. It recommended, among other things, a reorganization of police patrols on East Carson Street, where dozens of officers are working off-duty security details.
It also recommended developing a personal accountability campaign, encouraging patrons to be more responsible, and bringing more parking options to South Side revelers.
The institute's staff is in town this week and Wednesday will meet with members of the police bureau and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 to discuss how to more cohesively patrol East Carson Street. Members of the Chicago Police Department will be there to advise them on how entertainment districts in the Windy City are patrolled.
