Perry South woman charged after shots fired at unmarked Pittsburgh police vehicle

A 64-year-old Perry South woman has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after she fired a shot at an unmarked Pittsburgh police vehicle Wednesday night, police said.
Lorraine D. Taylor raised her arms and fired one round with her black Beretta Tomcat .32-caliber handgun, aiming for an unmarked police vehicle in her neighborhood, police said in a press release.
Ms. Taylor later told detectives she knew they were police when she fired the shot, according to the police press release.
Pittsburgh narcotics and vice detectives were patrolling in Perry South when they heard two gunshots coming from the 2200 block of the Federal Street extension at 9:13 p.m.
The detectives went to investigate, as Allegheny County dispatch also alerted them that shots were fired in that area, police said.
As they were backing down a long driveway from where they heard shots, they saw the woman, later identified as Ms. Taylor, fire the round at their vehicle, police said.
They got out of the vehicle and took cover with backup and supervisor units responding. Police swept the area and residence for additional people, then obtained a search warrant for the home, where they recovered the gun.
Ms. Taylor was taken into custody and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
