Pennsylvania State Police are searching for an inmate who left a Downtown halfway house Saturday night and never returned.

Kenneth Gray, 24, was serving a sentence for an aggravated assault conviction at Renewal Community Corrections center on Boulevard of the Allies, state police Trooper Robin Mungo said.

Gray told staff he needed to go to UPMC Mercy for treatment and left at 9:45 p.m. but never went to the hospital and never came back to the facility, Trooper Mungo said.

State police have obtained a warrant on an escape charge for Gray, who pleaded guilty in March 2009.

State police asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 412-787-2000.
