Pittsburgh Councilman Bill Peduto renewed his call Wednesday for Jordan Tax Service to revamp its billing system and make it possible to pay earned income taxes online.

Last year, Mr. Peduto called on the company to revamp its billing envelopes because he thought they looked too much like "junk mail;" some residents threw them away, not knowing what they were because the service was new. He also asked that Jordan use a form designed specifically for city residents and make it possible to pay online, which the city had available before state law set up regional collections last year to save money.

Mr. Peduto said Jordan had agreed to make changes, but when bills went out last week they were almost exactly the same. At Wednesday's council meeting, he told city Treasurer Margaret Lanier the system has "taken three steps backwards" and encouraged her to work with Jordan to make changes or void the contract and hire a different firm.
