A problem with an oxygen tank at UPMC Mercy briefly closed Boulevard of the Allies this morning.

UPMC spokeswoman Gloria Kreps said a relief valve on the primary oxygen malfunctioned about 1:30 a.m., forcing the hospital to switch to a secondary tank. A hazardous materials team was mobilized as a precaution and Pittsburgh police shut down Boulevard of the Allies briefly, police and a city dispatch supervisor said.

Ms. Kreps said oxygen tank company Praxair sent people to repair the valve and had the primary tank back online by 2:20 a.m.
