Pittsburgh police are investigating an early morning double shooting in Beltzhoover that left a woman dead and sent a man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the woman as 28-year-old Tiona Jackson. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:48 a.m.

Officers from the city's Zone 3 station responded to call a 1:37 a.m. at Vincent Street, near the intersection of East Warrington Avenue. There, they found a 32-year-old man and Ms. Jackson lying unresponsive in the street, according to a news release from police spokeswoman Diane Richard.

The man, who is from Penn Hills, was transported to UPMC Mercy in critical condition. Police described his condition this morning as stable.

Ms. Jackson was the mother of six children -- two boys and four girls, said her sister Litisha Underwood.

"She was a lovable, great person," Ms. Underwood said. "I'm just in shock. Her -- of all people. It didn't have to happen to her."

Family members were still unclear about what happened around the time of the shooting, Ms. Underwood said. Police said a motive remains unknown and no arrests have been made.

One witness noticed an older-model tan or gold mid-sized sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, flee the scene, police said.
