The opening of a new section of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail on the North Shore is now expected in mid-September.

Construction continued last week on a quarter-mile trail bridge along the edge of the Allegheny River just north of the 31st Street Bridge. The concrete deck is in place, and workers have begun installing railings.

Thomas E. Baxter IV, executive director of Friends of the Riverfront, the project sponsor, said he expects a dedication ceremony sometime after the Labor Day holiday.

The trail is being moved to the river's edge as part of a major reconstruction of Route 28.
