A New Jersey man has been arrested after police said plainclothes officers watched him leave a backpack with 2,000 stamp bags of heroin in the Downtown Greyhound station.

Rasheed McKenith, 33, of Newark faces charges of possession and intent to deliver heroin, Lt. Jason Lando from the city's Zone 2 station in the Hill District said.

He said four officers were conducting surveillance near the bus station about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when they saw Mr. McKenith leave the Amtrak station and walk into the bus station "acting in a suspicious manner." Police said they watched Mr. McKenith try to leave the backpack, which contained an estimated $20,000 worth of heroin, in the bathroom. They said he had just gotten off of a train that was headed from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.
