The Christmas season got off to a bad start for a Greenfield man over the weekend when someone made off with the nativity display in his yard, leaving behind only a ceramic lantern in the street.

The owner of a home on McCaslin Street told police Sunday that someone stole the display, valued at $400, from his front lawn while he was inside the house decking the halls for Christmas.

The man said he was putting up his Christmas decorations in the living room and turned on the outside lights, thinking his display, which was 42 inches tall and included numerous ceramic figures, was all lit up on the lawn.

When he went outside a few minutes later, he found it missing, including the electrical power pack worth another $100.
