The National Aviary has fired executive director Patrick Mangus for what board president Tony Bridge called "managerial differences."

Mr. Mangus was notified today, Mr. Bridge said.

Mr. Mangus, previously the aviary's chief operating officer from 2007 to 2009, when he became executive director, could not be reached for comment.

"The board determined that the organization would benefit from a change in leadership," Mr. Bridge said. "We had differing opinions about how the organization should be managed."

The acting director, Cheryl Tracy, is also the Aviary's chief financial officer.

"We are looking for someone with background in zoology and ornithology," Mr. Bridge said. "We'd like to find someone as soon as possible but we have no specific timeline."
