Muslim leader to speak at Islamic Center today

A Muslim leader known for his work in interfaith relations will be the keynote speaker today at Humanity Day, an annual celebration that the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh holds during Ramadan.

The public is invited to a free, international meal and interact with local Muslims at the mosque in Oakland. Events start at 6 p.m., with food served at sundown.

Safaa Zarzour, secretary-general of the Islamic Society of North America, will speak. He is a lawyer and the former principal of an Islamic K-12 school in Chicago. He is on the adjunct faculty of Loyola Law School, where he teaches both Islamic law and education law. His involvement in interfaith work, especially with the Catholic Church, includes serving on the advisory boards of St. Xavier University School of Education and the Bernardin Center at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
