Pittsburgh's Megabus stop moving to Gateway Center

The Megabus stop under the David L. Lawrence Convention Center will move to Gateway Center next month, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced today.
The new stop will be on Penn Avenue Extension, between Stanwix Street and Liberty Avenue and next to the Port Authority's new Gateway Station, spokeswoman Joanna Doven said. It will begin service July 2.
The Sports & Exhibition Authority, which owns the convention center, had ordered Megabus, the fast-growing low-cost intercity carrier, to move its stop because of complaints about litter and patrons using the center's rest rooms.
Riders liked the spot because it is under cover and well-lit. Ms. Doven said Pittsburgh was one of few cities with a covered stop for Megabus, which keeps costs low by picking up at curbside rather than using terminals.
The new spot is near the Port Authority's Light Rail Transit system and several bus routes and restaurants, she said. "We actually believe it's more convenient."
Other locations that were considered were at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland and on Second Avenue near the Allegheny County Jail, Ms. Doven said.
