A Maryland man will be sentenced to probation for a fatal 2008 accident in which he drove the wrong way on the Parkway North and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.
Yangdon Wang, 57, of Crownsville, Md., remains free on $25,000 bond. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to charges of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, driving across a road divider and reckless driving.
Killed in the June 8, 2008, accident was Kenneth A. Blobner, 55, of Green Tree, who was driving north on Interstate 279 at the time of the accident around 4:30 a.m.
Defense attorney Bernard Tully argued that Mr. Wang, an artist and sculptor, was confused when he entered the wrong way on the exit ramp from the North Side. Mr. Wang had been on his way to set up as a vendor at the Three Rivers Arts Festival, Downtown.
He missed his exit from the Parkway East into Downtown three times. The last time he found himself on the North Side entering the exit ramp, traveling the wrong direction beneath the ramp leading from Route 28 to the Veterans Bridge on the North Shore.
Mr. Blobner was killed instantly, police said, and Mr. Wang suffered moderate injuries.
The victim's family and police investigators did not object to the plea arrangement. Sentencing is set for Aug. 19.
