A state agency is providing $500,000 in gaming funds to help bring a Market Square project to fruition.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grant to the city's Urban Redevelopment Authority, which will use the money for infrastructure improvements, engineering and architectural work related to the Gardens at Market Square, an $80 million, 18-story mixed-use development by Millcraft Industries.

The project "will create more than 1,000 new jobs, revitalize a key entry point into the ever popular Market Square and continue Downtown's transformation into a 24/7 destination spot," Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said in a statement.

The development will include offices, retail, a hotel and nine-story parking garage.
