A man was fatally shot Sunday inside a house in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood in what police believe may have been a case of mistaken identity.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the man as 25-year-old Andre Broadie of Penn Hills.

Mr. Broadie was shot once in the head just after 5 p.m. inside a home in the 5100 block of Columbo Street. Sgt. Tom Huerbin of the city's Zone 5 station said the circumstances of the shooting are still being examined, but he said Mr. Broadie and a second man had entered the home.

The person in the house retrieved a rifle, which discharged and struck Mr. Broadie, whom he knew. Mr. Broadie was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt. Huerbin said it's unclear if the suspect thought the men were intruders or why he fired the rifle.

Homicide detectives could not be reached Sunday night.
