Pittsburgh police are investigating whether work-related troubles prompted a Beechview man to shoot his mother five times early Tuesday morning before turning the gun on himself.
Police said Henry Sunder, 55, called 911 about 12:35 a.m. and told dispatchers he had shot his mother in the home they shared in the 2000 block of Broadway Avenue. He would wait for police to arrive to kill him, he told dispatchers, who then heard a gunshot over the line.
When officers arrived, they found Mr. Sunder dead on the porch of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. His 73-year-old mother was inside suffering from five gunshot wounds, including one to the eye. She was taken to UPMC Mercy where she is expected to recover.
Detectives are still trying to understand Mr. Sunder's motives and are investigating his employment history.A spokeswoman for the Mt. Lebanon School District said Mr. Sunder was terminated from his job as a custodian there on May 7, but she declined to comment further.
