A man died and a woman was wounded when three people barged into a Spring Hill apartment Friday night.
The county medical examiner identified the man as Terry James, 38, of Pittsburgh. The office did not have information on the woman's condition when reached on Saturday morning.
Police from the city's Zone 1 station on the North Side were called to the 2100 block of Rhine Street about 8 p.m. for a report that a woman had been shot in the head and was banging on neighbors' doors for help.
Police later learned that three men had knocked on the door of a second-floor apartment, demanded money and opened fire, Lt. Michael Piasecki said.
A man was shot and died inside the apartment and the woman was shot in the head. Medics transported the woman to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition.
Police have not released either person's name. They said both people were staying the apartment but they did not think they were the ones renting it.
Lt. Piasecki said it was not clear why the three men targeted that apartment but that officers found drug paraphernalia inside.
