Pittsburgh police said they have charged a father and son in the shooting death of a man who was arguing with the father over an earlier drug deal in Lawrenceville.

Police Lt. Dan Herrmann said the shooting occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Quick Stop convenience store on Liberty Avenue.

He said the son, identified as Maurice Tigney, shot Gary Hager, 46, of Ross while he was in the middle of a fight with his father, Darrell Tigney. Mr. Hager was pronounced dead at UPMC Mercy at 4:16 p.m.

Police said the Tigneys were sitting in the Quick Stop parking lot when Mr. Hager approached their vehicle and began arguing. Mr. Hager reportedly tried to return to his vehicle but was stopped and assaulted by Darrell Tigney, police said. Maurice Tigney shot Mr. Hager in the torso during the altercation.

Mr. Hager was able to run into the store for help before collapsing. Both Maurice and Darrell Tigney are facing criminal homicide charges and were awaiting arraignment early this morning.
