A man convicted of third-degree murder in the August 2010 death of his girlfriend was sentenced to 211/2 to 40 years in prison Friday.

Police said Harry Green, now 22, shot Andrena Trowery, 21, in the head after an argument in her apartment on De Ruad Street in West Oakland. Police said the two had a history of squabbles, and Ms. Trowery had just asked him to leave. A jury found Mr. Green guilty of third-degree murder and illegally possessing a firearm in September, court records show.

Common Pleas Judge Beth Lazzara issued the sentence, which Ms. Trowery's mother, Barbara Robinson, said brought only fleeting comfort.

"The pain is still there," she said. "I'm glad he is paying for what he did to my daughter."
