Police continue to look for a red to purple Chevy truck seen leaving the scene of a fatal shooting in Friendship on Wednesday evening, Pittsburgh police said.
Maurice Penny, 24, was shot and killed in an apartment building on the 5500 block of Penn Avenue in Friendship, said Lt. Richard Pritchard of the Zone 5 station located in Highland Park.
Police responded to a shots fired call around 4:40 p.m. and found Penny in an interior stairwell, Lt. Pritchard said. Penny is from the Garfield-East Liberty area, the Allegheny County coroner's office said.
The coroner said today that Penny died from multiple gunshots to the neck. The death has been ruled a homicide.
A gun was found on the right side of the body and appeared to have fired one shot, Lt. Pritchard said.
Two people were reported seen in the truck that police are searching for, Lt. Pritchard said.
The apartment building that Penny was found in is on the border of Friendship, East Liberty and Garfield, near many newer business and restaurants.
Something like this "hasn't happened in this stretch for quite some time," Lt. Pritchard said.
