Man, 80, killed in Downtown Pittsburgh crash

An 80-year-old man died in a crash Downtown today when his car crashed into a metal pole at Gateway Center.

Pittsburgh police Zone 2 Cmdr. Eric Holmes said this morning that initial reports indicate the man might have had a medical emergency while driving on an off-ramp toward Stanwix Street.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the man as a Donald Fox.

The silver sedan crashed about 10:40 a.m. Liberty Avenue remains closed at Stanwix Street.

"We're very lucky no one else was hurt," the commander said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
