Lawrenceville preservation committee wants answers on Iron City Brewing demolitions

Portions of the former Iron City Brewing Co. site in Lawrenceville that were protected from demolition by the city of Pittsburgh more than two years ago have seemingly been torn down, leading neighborhood preservationists to ask for the city's intervention.
Collier Development Co. of Presto bought the site in February. Their representatives have not responded to calls for comment.
The Lawrenceville Stakeholders Historic Preservation Committee and 20 others have signed and sent a letter to the city's Historic Review Commission asking for "an immediate halt to further demolition, stiff fines to be levied against the owners and all parties involved in the demolition process for operating without proper City permits, and [that] the owners submit to the review process.
"The message that Council and other government agencies must send to the owners is that no person or organization has the right to exempt itself from legal compliance," the letter reads.
City officials could not be reached for comment.
Carol Peterson, a member of the stakeholders committee, said from Sassafras Way it is evident that two additional buildings or parts of two buildings have been demolished.
