Pittsburgh police have charged a homeless man with burglarizing nine homes and trying to break into seven others in the Bloomfield and Friendship neighborhoods this month.
Tony Montgomery, 27, was expected to be arraigned late Tuesday on a string of charges including burglary, attempted burglary, receiving stolen property and theft stemming from the crimes, which police said began Jan. 14.
The burglar would break into homes at night, sometimes while residents were home, and take valuables, including electronics, computers, video games, jewelry and cars, police said. In at least one case, a homeowner confronted Mr. Montgomery, who apologized and told him he was drunk and must have been in the wrong house, detectives wrote in a criminal complaint.
In another instance, a homeowner awoke to the sound of her garage door opening and saw a man driving off in her car.
