Community organizations and bicycling advocates will hold a gala Friday to celebrate the opening of a 2-mile trail extension in Hazelwood.

It will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hazelwood and Second avenues, with remarks and a ribbon-cutting at 5 p.m. Featured will be music, family activities and opportunities to talk with community leaders about the trail and other efforts to promote the neighborhood.

The new trail passes through the old LTV Steel site that is slated for redevelopment, starting at a trailhead near Irvine Street and Hazelwood Avenue and ending near the Hot Metal Bridge.
